New Forest local Janet M Smith has a background in textiles and print making, holding a B.A. Hons in Fine Arts 2008 after progressing from Foundation Art & Design, ONC/HND printmaking which she gained at the Arts Institute of Bournemouth. She has also studied textiles in Southampton, Brockenhurst and Windsor.
The love of drawing is the basis of all Janet's art, an emotional response driven by life experience. She combines observational drawings into abstract paintings, looking at shapes and patterns of colour in the landscape.
Janet's creative career began in textiles and flourished into Fine Arts. She has shown her works at many exhibitions including a collaborative exhibition at St Barbes Museum in Lymington with 2 other artists, where she exhibited pottery, textiles and drawings. She has also taken part in the Hampshire Open Studios in recent years.
Janet has used her talent to raise funds for Oakhaven Hospice and takes part regularly in art exhibitions with Lymington Palette Club and the New Forest Society, Lyndhurst. For the past 15 years, along with a fellow artist, Janet has been running workshops for adults with learning difficulties in printing and painting and exhibiting their contemporary works throughout Dorset.
